From powerful formation passes to graceful aerobatics, each performance highlights the skill and passion that define the world of aviation. In addition to these featured teams, past PDK airshows have included a wide variety of performers—from aerobatic pilots and historic warbird demonstrations to unique acts like jet-powered vehicles and vintage aircraft displays—bringing a diverse and exciting mix of aviation entertainment to the show.
Here’s a preview of the exciting acts you can expect to see at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport—stay tuned as more performers are announced!
Randy W. Ball is North America’s premier civilian jet demonstration pilot and the most prolific of his kind, with more than 1,800 air show performances. He is the only jet demo pilot, military or civilian, to hold FAA unlimited aerobatic ratings in jet fighters for both day and night operations. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, Ball has accumulated more than 20,000 flight hours, including over 2,000 hours in Russian jet fighters, and has flown more than 46 aircraft types from nine countries.
Inspired early by flying with his father and by his great-uncle, a B-17 combat veteran, Ball soloed at 18 and became involved in air shows in 1982. He is best known for his MiG-17F demonstrations, which mirror modern fighter tactics, routinely reaching 8g maneuvers and speeds near 700 mph. Beyond performing more air shows than any other civilian jet pilot in North America, Ball is also a test pilot, safety leader, museum board member, air show founder, and a dedicated mentor who aims to inspire the next generation of aviators.
Matt Younkin’s Beech 18 airshow routine is one of the most unique performances on
today’s circuit, showcasing aerobatics in an aircraft never designed for such maneuvers.
Inspired by the legendary routine pioneered by his father, Bobby Younkin, the act features rolls
on takeoff, Cuban eights, point rolls, a loop, and the crowd-favorite “Elephant Waltz,” flown with
landing gear and flaps extended. Blending humor, elegance, and musical storytelling, the
performance is both a tribute to Bobby Younkin and a consistent show-stopping highlight at
airshows.
John “Skipper” Hyle is a highly experienced pilot and instructor with a flying career spanning more than four decades. He earned his pilot certificate at age 17 and built early experience in airshows, instruction, and charter flying before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1986. An F-16 fighter pilot and later a T-38 instructor pilot, he left the USAF in 1995 with senior pilot wings and approximately 1,200 fighter hours.
Hyle went on to a long airline career, retiring in 2019 as a senior Boeing 737 captain with more than 17,000 total flight hours and type ratings in the DC-3, DC-9, and 737. A dedicated warbird pilot and airshow performer, he flies a Harvard Mk 4 as the centerpiece of his show and has extensive experience with the Commemorative Air Force and other historic aircraft organizations.
Warbirds are more than aircraft—they are living history in motion. These legendary machines, once forged for combat, now take to the skies as powerful reminders of the courage, innovation, and sacrifice that shaped aviation history. From the unmistakable roar of radial engines to the sleek lines of iconic fighters and bombers, warbirds capture the spirit of a bygone era with every pass. Our Warbirds performer brings these historic aircraft to life with a dynamic aerial display that combines precision flying, dramatic maneuvers, and storytelling through flight.
Buck Roetman is a veteran pilot with more than 42 years of flying experience, over 18,000 flight hours, and time in more than 155 aircraft types ranging from light planes to corporate jets. He holds numerous FAA certificates, multiple jet type ratings, and is both an A&P mechanic with inspection authorization and an Aerobatic Competency Examiner for the International Council of Air Shows.
Drawing on a background in motorsports fabrication and engineering, Roetman has built, modified, and customized numerous aircraft. He is president of Wild Horse Aviation in Georgia and has been an airshow performer since 1998, flying a highly modified Pitts S2S powered by a 375+ horsepower engine. A longtime Georgia resident, Roetman is supported by several aviation sponsors and has been married to his wife Candice for over 40 years.
The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of Army Aviation while educating the American public on its historic contributions. The organization maintains historic Army Aviation aircraft in flyable condition and honors the service and sacrifice of veterans and their families.
Through engaging volunteer opportunities, the Foundation supports veterans and patriotic individuals, fostering connections to Army Aviation and encouraging careers in aviation through hands-on, experiential initiatives. Additionally, the Foundation leverages its volunteer resources and public visibility to raise awareness of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive condition linked to repetitive concussions.
